| es_MX |

English | Air pollution is a critical public health problem, especially in urban and industrialized areas, where pollutants emitted by vehicles and the combustion of fossil fuels affect respiratory health. In the state of Guanajuato, 3 cities have been identified with high levels of air pollution, with high levels of PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2 and CO2. Several studies have shown that expiratory flows could be an indicator of changes in lung function induced by air pollutants. To evaluate lung function measured in relation to expiratory flows (FEF25%, FEF50%, FEF75%, FEF25-75% and PEF) in children exposed and not exposed to air pollutants. An observational, comparative and cross-sectional study was carried out in children aged 6 to 12 years exposed and not exposed to air pollutants. The Respiratory Health Questionnaire of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases was used to obtain sociodemographic and clinical history. Anthropometric and spirometric measurements were performed, including Mean Expiratory Flow (FEF25-75%), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and instantaneous expiratory flows (FEF25%, FEF50%, and FEF75%). Spirometric parameters showed non-significant differences in most cases between children exposed and not exposed to air pollutants. The FEF25-75% flow rate was significantly lower in the exposed group. Conclusion: Expiratory flows are lower in children exposed to air pollutants, especially Mean Expiratory Flow (FEF25-75%). | en |
